About This Racket
Yamaha, Yonex, and Mizumo were the big names in racket sports in Japan (and Asia). Yamaha is of course a huge company in transport, hi-fi, music and pianos. This is one of their early models which was later improved. They didn’t have much success in old school tennis, but still made a couple of amazing wooden rackets before becoming a leader in composite materials. In 1973 Yamaha entered the tennis racket market when almost all rackets were still made with wood. Yamaha surely helped usher in the modern graphite racket era by pushing the limits with more powerful racket options during the wood era. their first models were the YCR 124,126,128 & the open throat 130 but they learned quickly and in 1974 Yamaha started making frames of polyurethane reinforced by fiberglass and in 1975 added fiberglass rackets made of pure fibreglass epoxy with a core of Nylon in the YFG series. The first YFG was the 1975 model was the YFG-30 (black and white livery) and the 1976 model was the YFG-50 which added carbon to the fiberglass frame.
By 1981 YFG series included
YFG-10 which is more head light and flexible than other YFG models
YFG-20 which increased the YFG-30 head size by 20%.
YFG-50 which added carbon to the fiberglass frame.
YFG-70 which added carbon to the fiberglass frame.
YFG-90 which used carbon and graphite for the frame.
