About This Racket
This super rare 13oz. “Streamline” tennis racket was manufactured by “Hazells Ltd. London,” and designed by famous player Bunny Austen, the slim main shaft supported by two diagonal shafts running from the handle to either side of the head with the intention of making it more aerodynamic. The design of the Streamline racket was filed for patent on December 17th 1935 by Frank W Donisthorpe, (patented in 1937 in usa) a former tennis player and its inventor. The company made tennis, badminton and squash rackets named red, blue and green star. They also produced a painted white and an aqua colour racket. Bunny Austin, the English tennis champion, actively promoted the Streamline racket. It was popular not just for its eye catching design but also for the practicality of its light weight. This design was designed by Frank Donisthorpe included a note β βThe object of this invention is to provide a racket or the like of improved shape which will be more eminent in use. A further object is to provide a racket or the like with reinforcements which will prevent warp or twist and which will prevent the racket being pulled out of shape by the strings. The Streamline was made famous by Henry Wilfred Austin, an English champion of the 1930s, and runner-up at Wimbledon in 1932 and 1938.
